Any thoughts on this brand?

Although Smoknig Loon wines have been acclaimed as  "best buys"  by many in the media, I have found the two varietals I have tried to be disappointing for the money, even though the money was $10 or less in both cases.

I had the Cabernet Sauvignon some little while ago.  Less than ordinary I thought with no varietal character.  I just had their Viognier this weekend and I actively disliked this wine.  A rather dark straw color the wine did have a promising aroma lightly floral and sweetish.  In the mouth though I thought the wine was hard and bitter.

This line is produced by Don Sebastiani a large producer of discount wines including Pepperwood Grove, cheap wines which I think do exhibit varietal character.

I still have a Smoking Loon Syrah.  Hopefull this will not be a case of three strikes and yer out.
